CHINA CONSUMERS
An Ethnographic Quest

Join us in Beijing in 2008

Join an international team of anthropologists, sociologists, and people interested in China for three days in Beijing. Share and learn in an intimate, two-day conference on consumers in China. We will meet in a conference center on the campus of Beijing Beijing and Culture University--not your usual conference venue. But this is not your usual conference. The four-star hotel nearby will require a daily walk through a lovely Beijing neighborhood. And that walk mirrors the experience we hope participants will have?a more genuine engagement with Chinese daily urban life than might be provided by a visit to an international conference center.

We have been offered a co-sponsorship from the most highly regarded institution of anthropological and ethnological research in China--and we are working with them, with Ming Chang, our Beijing staff member, and with several key collaborators to select the best date for our conference.

Plan to come a day early to experience ethnographic fieldwork in old and new Beijing neighborhoods. Gain a better understanding of daily life in China. Learn about research methodology in the Chinese context from Chinese and non-Chinese researchers through a unique, hands-on introduction to fieldwork.

What you'll learn will be useful. You'll get the Chinese point of view on your work--whether entertainment, services, or consumer products.

Capture consumer insights first-hand with leading-edge ethnographic methods. Discover the beauty and challenge of Chinese daily life and explore its futures--and yours!
