Pacific Ethnography is an anthropological and design research consultancy. We conduct field research - ethnography - for businesses, non-governmental organizations, and government clients. Our past projects have covered design and market researches in the USA, Hong Kong, India, and Korea.
Our capabilities include a full range of ethnographic techniques and tools to assess human impact on environments, identify new consumer needs, trends, product ideas, and assist in the establishing of human service, public policy and health settings in both developed and developing economies.
Our experience and collaborative approach help organizations move from findings to actions. We strive for holism, methodological rigor, theoretical sophistication, teamwork and trustworthy, useful results in the best tradition of applied anthropology.
Our China Team

We are fortunate to have a field office in Beijing, staffed with a fieldworker, Ming Chang Xie, M.A., and our VP for China, Ms. Jo Yung, M.A., an anthropologist. Their experience in China covers both urban and rural China, from tier one to tier three cities.
We have visited to rural villages and mountain farmsteads to learn about Chinese rural youth and Nusuo (Yi) settlements to learn about minority-group life. We squeeze into alleys in the urban slums to visit migrant workers, and flown tourist class with our ethnographic filmmaker to learn how physically challenged people experience passenger airline flights. We've interviewed and photographed so-called middle-class homes in the North, the South, and the Southwest. One of our team has a performance and production credit on a Chinese popular music CD, and another has a blog about work life in China that has been highlighted by Business Week.
For this conference, we are drawing on our colleagues from other research firms, from the academy, and from business research to create a conference program that is not only the first of its kind, but that provides you with best-in-class speakers and activities.
